2008 Men's Tri-Level Regional Championship Results
by Tom Polk & Iris Ham, Tournament Directors
Despite the rain, we were able to complete the Tri-Level tournament on schedule with some beautiful weather on Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Here is the winning men's team that will represent the Southern Section at the Pacific Life Tri-Level Championships to be held in March 2009 in Indian Wells California (along with the female half of the team):
- 4.5 level - Mrinal Das & Ryan Degnan
- 4.0 level - Bo Wheeler & Jack Gay
- 3.5 level - Brad Vice & Bob Ware
Thanks to all the players who participated. The competition was fierce and certainly enjoyable! Hope to see you all next year (with a few more teams, eh?).
The Volunteer Corps – 2008 Tri-Level Championship
It takes an impressive group of women to be as dedicated as our LNTA volunteers
by Sam Falewee

After this past exciting weekend (and several years of dedicated work) the Lake Norman Tennis pauses to recognize Volunteer Director Rainey Helms and her corps of dedicated volunteers. Rainey has been playing tennis since the 70s, ever since the start of the Lake Norman Tennis Board. She is also Secretary of the Board, Super Senior Local League Coordinator, and Tri-Level League Coordinator. She leads a wonderful group of women who not only play tennis with her and Alice White’s adult 3.5 Spring Team, but volunteer for tournaments and events every time Rainey gives them a call.

Alice White, Ginny Nelson, and Agnes Babboni are the original members of the 3.5 spring team, and all share recollections of playing round robins on Saturday mornings at Jetton Park. Alice started the 3.5 team in 1994 with the help of dedicated players and the tennis board, and she commends Rainey on her great job of expanding the senior team. These three early players used to go to Pinehurst for tournaments, Agnes remembers, and in retrospect she is anticipating this coming weekend’s Super Seniors state tournament in Greensboro for the chance of going to sectionals. Agnes began originally taking tennis classes at East Mecklenburg High School. Having undergone two back surgeries and three foot surgeries has not deterred Agnes from her love of tennis.
Her 12-year old grandson, Clay, volunteered this past weekend as well.
A warm thank you goes out to these dedicated women who have all volunteered at least three years or more and are themselves devoted tennis team players:
